Snowdrops are not a native species to the British Isles. Although some sources state they were originally brought to Britain by the Romans 2000 years ago, it is more commonly accepted that they were introduced around the 16th century.

Snowdrops flower in winter, usually first appearing towards the end of January and have normally finished flowering by the end of March.  It is illegal to collect Snowdrop bulbs from the wild.
